Rath Yatra 2023: Devotion grips Puri as ceremonial pahandi rituals begin

 Like every year, lakhs of devotees had one chant on their lips—Jai Jagannath as they danced and dipped in spirituality on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra in Puri.

Devotion is now in the air and the entire stretch of Bada Danda is agog with hopes and aspiration that unites devotees with the Lord Jagannath and his siblings- Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. Since early morning, the rituals associated with the annual sojourn of the Lord began at Puri Srimandir.

Devotees waited in bated breath as the three deities- Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra will be taken out in the ceremonial pahandi by the servitors one after another. It is a grand spectacle that is a combination of the devotion of faith as the deities are escorted to their respective chariots for their annual journey to Gundicha temple.

Braving the heat and humid conditions, a sea of devotees congregated on the Bada Danda to have a glimpse of Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Balabhadra on their respective chariots.

It is the string of faith that connects devotees with the Lord of the Universe as it is the special occasion when Mahaprabhu steps out of his abode to give darshan to millions of devotees.

Stage set for Rath Yatra in Puri; Pahandi of deities to begin shortly

 Millions of people across the globe are eagerly waiting for the Lord of the Universe, Mahaprabhu Jagannath to come out of his abode and give darshan on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra today.

Lakhs of devotees have also converged on the Bada Danda, the Grand Road in Puri which is now bustling with activities ahead of the ceremonial pahandi of Lord Jagannath and his siblings- Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the district administration for the smooth conduct of the rituals on the occasion of Rath Yatra today.

In view of heatwave, the administration has made elaborate arrangements. About 25 lakh water bottles have been stocked while volunteers have been roped in to distribute them among the devotees on the Grand Road and the sea beach.

Water sprinkler system, machines for spraying and misting of water to be used to provide cooling effect.

Special Traffic Arrangement

All the inter-state tourist buses and local tourist buses coming from Bhubaneswar will stop and park at Malatipatpur bus terminal. All the regular passenger-carrying buses including the 'Mo Bus' will be allowed up to Talabania temporary bus terminal via Malatipatapur railway over bridge, Toshali Sands, Grid Station Chhak, and Bhudan Chhaka.
